I'd lean towards yes, but it definitely sucks for small towns that inevitably get dropped when it's not economical to ship to them. When hiking the PCT, the postal service was a godsend for my parents to send me stuff along the way. Someone would have to pick up that slack (I'm imagining trail angels would have to make regular trips to pick up mail in the larger towns nearby and bring it to the hikers).
Agree with you here. Private companies are more likely to drive efficiencies, but ensuring equal service for everyone requires servicing what would be unprofitable addresses to a private company. That means either a public service or explicit service requirements for a private company. No slam-dunk answer here, I think. Similar challenges in health care.
Privatize and mail to rural addresses gets priced like a business decision, not a public service. Voting yes: are you fine with that tradeoff for cheaper stamps?
