Should U.S. citizens be able to vote directly on national laws through referendums?

I do think it's valuable to have a process that ensures careful consideration of the details and tradeoffs of proposed legislation. Leaving that to popular vote, while I like it conceptually, is dangerous I think. Better to vote on the representatives you think will give legislation the careful consideration it deserves.
