Should schools ban face coverings such as the burqa and niqab?
Italy's Council of Ministers approved a decree banning face coverings including the burqa and niqab in schools and capping certain foreign pupils at 30% of first-year classes.

As in so many areas, this is one were applying common sense is the solution. So no, covering the face completely is unacceptable in just about any social situation, let alone in school (nor is it a Quranic requirement). On the other hand, a head covering which leaves the face exposed should be acceptable, as enforcing a rule against it would have no practical purpose other than to make some Muslim and some Jewish Orthodox women uncomfortable and stigmatised.
Face coverings for women is not a religious requirement of the Quran, it is a social convention among some Islamic groups. Same with female genital mutilation.
